Since last spring, the European Union has agreed to send a delegation of Parliamentarians in mid-October to visit Rosia Montana, the potential site of Europe's largest open cast gold mine. A few days ago the visit was postponed until December. Yet in the coming weeks, the Canadian company planning to develop this project will be submitting their Environmental Impact Assessment, and many locals will be unable to talk to the delegation about their concerns for their health, loss of livelihood, environmental impacts and forced resettlement. December will be too late. Write a letter to the EU President, asking him to reconsider the postponement.

The World Bank and other donors have vowed to fight corruption. On August 15, 2003, a Lesotho Appeal Court dismissed the appeal of Acres International, a Canadian engineering firm, to a conviction of bribery related to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Acres is a repeat customer at the World Bank and EDC, yet neither have said how they are going to treat this conviction. Write the World Bank and EDC to let them know what you think!
